Escape rooms are a thrilling combination of problem-solving, teamwork, and time management. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned enthusiast, Edge Escape has these tips that will help you succeed and enhance your escape room experience.
1. Choose the Right Team
Success starts with a well-rounded team. Gather a group of 4-6 people who bring different strengths to the table—critical thinking, attention to detail, communication, and calmness under pressure. Ensure everyone is willing to collaborate and listen. In many cases your team is your family or close friends which is great because a major goal should be to have fun and bond with your team.
2. Understand the Rules
Before diving in, pay close attention to the game master’s instructions. Understanding the rules, safety guidelines, and the theme of the room can save you time and prevent mistakes. At Edge Escape all our rooms are theme based. You have a mission or task to resolve, and we describe this to you in introduction videos and by the gamemaster when you enter.
3. Communicate Effectively
Communication is key in an escape room and honestly in life, which is what makes Escape Rooms such a great learning experience. Share everything you find with your team. Speak up if you notice something unusual or solve part of a puzzle. Knowing what has been solved and what hasn’t will help your team focus their time efficiently. Effective communication helps the team piece together clues faster.
4. Delegate Tasks
To avoid redundancy and wasted time, divide and conquer. Assign different tasks to team members based on their strengths. While one group works on deciphering codes, another can search for hidden clues. Edge Escape room has designed all our rooms so there are points where the puzzle solving is not linear, meaning multiple parts can be solved at the same time. This allows larger groups to have the ability to separate tasks so everyone can be doing something.
5. Search Thoroughly
Leave no stone unturned. Check for clues in drawers, behind pictures, under furniture, and even in seemingly mundane objects. Be thorough but don’t get stuck in one spot for too long.
6. Stay Organized
As you uncover clues and solve puzzles, keep everything organized. Designate a central spot for used clues and solved puzzles to avoid confusion and keep track of your progress.
7. Keep Track of Time
Escape rooms are time-sensitive, though at Edge Escape our ideal goal is having everyone win with seconds to spare. Keep an understanding of the time left and pace yourselves accordingly. If you’re stuck on a puzzle for too long, move on and revisit it later with fresh eyes or ask someone else to try and figure it out while you work on something else.
8. Ask for Hints
Most escape rooms allow a certain number of hints but at Edge Escape we offer unlimited hints so depending on your experience level you can adjust the difficulty of any room to match. Don’t hesitate to use them if you’re stuck. A timely hint can prevent frustration and keep the momentum going.
9. Think Outside the Box
Escape rooms often require creative thinking. Look at puzzles from different angles and consider unconventional solutions. Sometimes, the most obvious answer isn’t the correct one.
10. Stay Calm and Positive
Stress and frustration can hinder your ability to think clearly. Stay calm, encourage your teammates, and keep a positive attitude. Sometimes at Edge Escape we’ll ask you to dance or sing for a hint. Our gamemasters do this to help break up tension and frustration when teams are having trouble solving a puzzle. Enjoy the experience, our #1 goal is to make sure that happens and we’ll do everything we can to help accommodate your team having a great time. If you’re falling behind, we’ll help you catch up.
